It was endowed by Robert Laidlaw and others interested in the education of the sons of the Anglo-Indian and domiciled European community

The origin ofThe Calcutta Boys' Schoolis closely linked with the establishment ofthe Methodist Episcopal Church ( now the MCI) in India.The Calcutta Boys’ Schoolisa Christian Minority Anglo – Indian English Medium day school under the control andauthority of Bengal Regional Conference of the Methodist Church in India, managed bythe Calcutta Christian School Society (Regd). In 1874 Rev. Mills Thoburn succeededRev. Dr. William Taylor, the famous evangelist known for establishing the firstMethodist Church in Zigzag Lane, Calcutta. It was Bishop J. M. Thoburn who foundedThe Calcutta Boys’ School in March, 1877 with 6 children
James Mills Thoburn was an American Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church bestknown for his missionary work in India. He reached India in December 1859, settingfoot on Indian soil for the first time at Babughat, Calcutta. Preaching in both the nativeand European languages,James’ missionary zealpioneered remarkable growth of theMethodist Church in India
